The Benefits of fish oil omega 3 fatty acids

Filed under: Nutrition News — biopathics @ 10:55 pm

The main benefits of fish oil omega 3 fatty acids are centered on the heart, joints, brain, and immune system. It is known to help manage heart diseases, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety, immune system, inflammation, arthritis, diabetes, cancer and other common health problems. Most of the health benefits attributed to fish oil are brought by its omega 3 as well as its essential fatty acid content; the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). As the scientific community unveils more of the significant health benefits that fish oil brings, the demand for fish oil supplements have dramatically increased.

The following are some of the possible fish oil benefits that you should know:

• Omega 3 mainly constitutes fish oil. It may be very effective in reducing the risk of heart diseases as it lowers the LDL cholesterol levels, which is also known as bad cholesterol, while increasing HDL levels or the good cholesterol. In this light, it prevents triglycerides from accumulating and causing heart problems.

• Regular fish oil consumption may help strengthen the immune system and lessens the incidence of cold, cough, and flu.

• The EPA in omega 3 fatty acids may promote positive inflammatory responses. It may regulate the inflammation cycle, which brings relief to arthritis, prostitis, cystitis, and other painful conditions.

• It may also improve vision as well as skin conditions in restricting the growth pro-inflammatory agents that are commonly produced by the arachidonic acid.

• It may improve conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders. Omega 3 may be very good in relieving anxiety, restlessness, mental fatigue, stress, and other nervous disorders. The secret lies on the high concentration of fatty acids in fish oil.

• Fish oil is recommended among pregnant women or nursing mothers as it may hasten cognitive development and functions, resulting to sharper memory or improved ability for doing recall, reasoning, and focus.

Popular Asthma and Allergy Medicine Not Linked to Depression or Suicide

According to studies and the FDA the popular asthma and allergy medication Singulair is not linked to depression or suicide, this comes after its parent company Merck had changed the warning label to include tremors, depression, suicide and anxiousness.
The American Lung Association will publish the fidings from this study that was conducted about the safety of the drug in the Journal of Allergy and Clincal Immunology according to a statement.
The study that was conducted by researchers Janet Holbrook and Raida Harik-Khan, was to analyze data from clinical trials that were conducted using Singulair and a placebo for changes in the emotional state of the participants.
The analyzing of the Singuliar trials came after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced in March that the drug could be linked to changes in mood or behavior and also to suicides.
According to Chief Medical Officer Norman Edelman of the American Lung Association in many cases doing studies on a medication that has been approved and is on the market is usually difficult. He stated that with Singulair the data that had been compiled during studies was invaluable. This is because there was data from a large group of participants.
The debate swirling around many of these medications is probably the reason that so many of the nutritional supplements out there such as Himalayan goji juice are becoming so popular. It is easy to understand why. You can spend some money now on a nutritional supplement such as goji juice or super greens or what have you and you do not have to spend a fortune later and deal with all of the hazardous side effects and other hassles assocaiated with certain medications that are out there.

The Latest Research on the role of Long Chain Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Here is a new article from Lori Mathews concerning the benefits of pharmaceutical grade fish oil supplementation. In recent years, omega-3 fatty acids have been in the news quite a lot. You may believe that those involved in “holistic” wellness pursuits would be the ones touting these amazing little gems, but actually, the mainstream medical profession, too, has taken note.

As a matter of fact, our diets are badly lacking concerning the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids dha and epa. We really need to injest more of these nutrients for optimal health. Many experts conclude that we require about 2 grams per day. You ight even be advised to take more than that if you happen suffer from depression or other ailments, but you should consult with your doctor before doing that.

It was not always the case that we were deficient in these particular fatty acids, yet our poor diets recently have given us an abundance of omega-6 fatty acids in the form of such items like corn oil, while our injestion of omega-3 fatty acids has dropped off considerably.

What particular health conditions might omega-3 fatty acids possibly assist in? Well they may be good for your heart plus ease the pain in your aching joints. They might likewise help improve your cholesterol profile, sharply reduce triglycerides, and may also help lower blood pressure in some individuals. This is because omega-3 fatty acids (especially those that come from fish) are particularly rich in DHA, docosahexaenoic acid. It’s been demonstrated that the brain prefers DHA over other types of omega-3 fatty acids. This might indeed be beneficial to brain health in particular, and a deficiency could contribute to learning problems. DHA is certainly essential for infants’ proper brain development, while in adults, DHA is needed for good brain functioning. As a matter of fact, it could even forestall or even eliminate Alzheimer’s disease.

Now, it should be noted that there are many foods other than fish happen to feature omega-3 fatty acids, like walnuts, eggs and flax seed oil. But with these foods, the body must convert alpha linoleic acid (ALA) into those omega-3 fatty acids naturally already present in fish, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Because of the conversion process, benefits are not as quick. These foods also feature considerably lower levels of omega-3 fatty acids than fish do.

Unless otherwise contradicted, though, taking fish oils especially in the form of fish oil capsules is an easy way to increase your omega-3 fatty acid consumption and improve overall health.

The Many Needs of Vitamin D

I just got back from Westminster and Thornton (dentists office) time to get back to the old writing thing up in here. Recent research into the need for Vitamin D has shown that many diseases can be helped or even the risk of them may be prevented by adequate Vitamin D intake.. Vitamin D may even lower the risk of falls in the elderly. It has been found that Vitamin D helps to build strong bones and improves muscle strength and balance. Falls are a major source of injury in the elderly and the danger of broken bones is a concern. Vitamin D however helps to strengthen bones if a fall does occur. It also helps to build strong teeth, as an any good dentist can tell you. As an aside if you are searching for a qualified Westminster dentist then I can certainly suggest Thorncreek cosmetic dentistry for dental implants, veneers, invisalign, teeth whitening and also sedation dentistry in Broomfield. All right now back to the main story at hand here:

Vitamin D can also help lower the risk of Cancer. Studies have shown that adequate amounts of Vitamin D can regulate cellular growth and thus prevent the growth of cancerous cells. A low intake of Vitamin D may increase the risk of some cancers such as

Cancers of the breast, colon, rectum, ovary, kidney, lung and uterus.

Inadequate amounts of Vitamin D can also lead to muscle pain and weakness. Research studies have also shown that vitamin D protects us from type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis by reducing inflammation and strengthening the immune system.

It has been shown that women who supplement their diet with 400IU daily can lower the risk of multiple sclerosis. Studies have also shown that inadequate vitamin D, along with other factors, can contribute cardiovascular disease coronary artery calcification. There is even a connection made with congestive heart failure and low vitamin D.

It is now recommended that the daily intake of vitamin D should be 800 to 1000 IU.

Our body will produce Vitamin D when out in the sunlight but many people need to take supplements. It can be taken alone or with calcium.
