According to reports by Los Angeles DUI lawyers, the California Highway Patrol stayed busy over the holiday weekend with motorists driving under the influence. It was reported that the California Highway Patrol arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence in San Luis Obispo County and they made 48 DUI arrests in Santa Barbara County.

There were also several checkpoints set up throughout the weekend and the Lompoc Police made two driving under the influence arrests on Sunday night. The San Luis Obispo Police had a checkpoint on Friday night and made three driving under the influence arrests.

Irvine Man Sentenced For DUI Death

I just found a great news story about drunk driving deaths in Orange County, California and wanted to give all you biopathics followers a shout out about it.

Los Angeles drunk driving attorneys reported that an Irvine man was sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison on Friday for gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI that resulted in the death of CSU student Ashley Knight last November 2007.

Reportedly, Brian Burchfield, aged 22 had been drinking at a bar near Orange circle and at a friend’s house on the night of November 16, 2007 and then decided to drive home. Burchfield was driving east on the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway when he crashed head-on into the car that Knight was riding in as a passenger. The driver Samira Bahu, reportedly was seriously injured in the accident that killed Knight.

According to Vicki Maciha who is the senior Victim’s Advocate for the areas local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the sentence that Burchfield received from Judge Carla Singer, was one of the stiffest drunk driving sentences this year. If you know someone who was killed in a DUI, call 888-400-9721.

14th Annual Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America Highlights Medical Safety

On Tuesday, about 175 bikers gathered for the annual Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America event. This year the Kyle Petty Charity Ride will actually only cover 10 states from Michigan to Georgia. In the past the charity ride has gone from the California and Oregon Coasts all the way across America to Florida and North Carolina, with the exception of last year when the ride started in Maine and ended in Florida.

The annual ride, now a fund raiser for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, came into being in honor of Adam Petty who was killed in a racing accident in 2000. Adam was the grandchild and son of Richard and Kyle Petty. According to reports, the Petty’s first began leading the ride in 1995 when it was a fund raiser for children’s hospitals and research facilities along the ride route. Adam was killed one week after the 2000 ride. In 2002, the Petty’s opened the Victory Junction Gang Camp and the ride became one of its biggest fundraisers.

As reported elsewhere, the ride this year began on Tuesday in Michigan and will officially end in Savannah, Georgia on Sunday morning. The ride first began with mostly Harley Davidson Motorcycle riders but has since accepted Honda, BMW, Victory and Kawasaki motorcycles.
