How Do You Know if Your Dog Has Parvovirus?

Filed under: Pet Health — biopathics @ 12:49 am

I just returned from Salt Lake City, time to get writing. A great range exists in the severity of symptoms in dogs infected with parvovirus. Lots of adult dogs that have come into contact with the virus show few, if any, signs. Most cases of Parvo are detected in dogs Younger than 6 months old, and the worst cases seen in puppies younger than 12 weeks old. There are also noteworthy differences in reaction to parvovirus infections. There are also significant differences in the reaction to vaccines among various breeds of dogs. Labrador Retrievers, Doberman Pinschers, and Rottweilers are more vulnerable than other kinds of dogs. Incidentially should you require some salt lake city dog grooming then this resource may be of assistance. All in all they are very good and can also help with cat and other pet boarding and doggie daycare as well. However, the aforementioned dog grooming is their primary specialty. They have their headquarters in Salt lake City and Utah they can reach most areas. Now back to the main story.
The most common form of the disease, Parvovirus enteritis, is accompanied by vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, bloody feces, and in the worst cases, lowered white blood cell counts. Parvovirus enteritis can affect dogs of any kind, of any age
Parvovirus develops quickly rapidly and can result in death as fast as two days after the start of the disease. Where gram negative bacteria, parasites, or other viruses are also present, the disease can be even more serious and slow recovery.

Latisse is New Big Thing in Cosmetic Enhancement

Filed under: Medical News — Tags: — biopathics @ 8:30 am

There has been a lot of developments in this field, including breast enhancement and breast enlargement, etc. “Botox was originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration to reduce eye spasms,” writes Janice Lloyd for USA Today, in her article Another drug is getting a second life because of desirable side effects, published February 22, 2009. She says that, “Then the world realized it also made people look younger by eliminating wrinkles.”
In his report, Chance side effect creates thick eyelashes, market for Latisse, posted 2/22/2009 for USA Today, Robert Deutsch, wrote about Liz Weber, who wears mascara on her her longer, thicker lashes. Weber uses Latisse, by Allergan. The company predicts sales around the world to surpass $500 million a year. Liz Weber used Latisse on her short lashes, which were affected by a condition called hypotrichosis. Incidentially if you are looking for a breast augmentation or perhaps a breast enhancement specialist, then I can suggest them, as well as overall breast enlargement in general.
Human growth hormone was developed for children suffering with growth disorders. Eventually older people and athletes wanting a physical boost started finding HGH through illegal suppliers. HGH delivers muscle growth and overall toning.
Lumigan is a drug Allergan developed to treat glaucoma. The disease can cause blindness if not treated. The medication works by decreasing pressure within the eye by slowing the production of a fluid in the eye or by increasing fluid drainage.

Los Angeles, No Decision To Clear Up Medical Pot Questions

Filed under: brain injury — biopathics @ 8:36 pm

Yesterday Brian Doherty reported for Los Angeles’ local public broadcasting news outlet, KCET, that there is “No Decision on Medical Pot.”

Yesterday, December 16, 2009, Doherty wrote that the City Council in Los Angeles did not vote on new regulations for medical pot dispensaries, following many weeks of debate mostly covering questions of how many dispensaries will be allowed and where. There has been a lot of debate on the subject, with many arguing that it does not cause car, automobile or motorcycle accident like alcohol does or brain injury as meth or coke can sometimes do with repeated use. Speaking of that, if you find yourself needing a Los Angeles brain injury attorney or lawyer then I can recommend this law firm. They can also help with burn and spinal cord injury as well as brain injury. A top attorney indeed.
Doherty wrote that ideas to amend and adjust buffer zones between residential housing, “sensitive uses” (including schools, parks, youth centers, libraries and churches), and the marijuana dispensaries were still being discussed at Wednesday’s City Council meeting.
Councilwoman Jan Perry offered a proposal that each council district have its councilperson decide on its own buffer zone. Councilman Richard Alarcon, did not attempt to hide his annoyance with the proceedings.
Alarcon wanted an immediate vote rather than letting the council members consider new maps from the city planning department that delineate the limited acreage of the city in which medical pot dispensaries could actually operate under definitions of the buffer zone. I am not sure if the attorney general will get involved.

A California female, Lila Toscano has pleaded guilty to almost a hundred counts which include everything from conspiracy to insurance fraud and capping.
According to prosecutors Toscano (age 41) recruited over two hundred individuals people, with the majority being from California, to take part in fake medical surgeries which included operations for sweaty palms and other things. These operations were done in exchange for low cost cosmetic surgeries or money. Spokesman Farrah Emami of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office stated that the victims were insurance companies and consumers in the scam. All in all, the insurance firms were billed about ten million dollars and made payments in excess $2.5 million for the patients recruited by Toscano, who made $770,000 in false surgery scam. For more medical, legal and safety news go to the California news Blog.
Along with Toscano who was sentenced to eight years for her part in the surgery scheme, which was a multi-state $ 154 million dollar medical insurance fraud scam, is the seventh person to plead guilty. The other suspected medical fraud defendants are scheduled for trial in August in Santa Ana Central Justice Center.
According to reports, by the district attorney, there were as many as 39 states involved in the scam and three doctors that had taken part performing 1,037 medical procedures.

Medical Marijuana Grower Sentenced In Los Angeles

Filed under: general news — biopathics @ 7:08 pm

In federal court a judge sentenced Charles C. Lynch the owner of a marijuana dispensary to one year in prison. Federal Judge George H. Wu talked at length prior to sentencing Lynch and reduced the mandatory five year sentence, but said he could find no way around sending him to jail. He also stated that the changed federal policy did not directly affect his decision. This guy might have benefited from a better criminal defense attorney perhaps.Lynch was convicted in 2008 with the selling of medical marijuana from his dispensary to customers under the age of 21. By the way if you require a good Los Angeles criminal defense attorney then may I suggest Ramiro Luis. He is one of the best in that area available. Lynch argued in court that he had complied with California’s laws that allow the use of marijuana with a doctor’s prescription.
Thomas P. O’Brien, who is the United States attorney for the Central District of California, stated that Lynch had violated the state laws, because he was not the customer’s main caregiver. He went on to state that Lynch provided no medical services other than the sale of marijuana.

Man Convicted Of Stealing Records At Los Angeles Hospital

Filed under: Uncategorized — biopathics @ 8:56 pm

In medical criminal related news, a man identified as James Allen Wilson has been convicted of stealing patient records while working at Cedars Sinai Medical Center to four years and eight months in prison. He was convicted after pleading guilty of stealing patient information in order to defraud insurance companies for $354,000. There is simply no defense for that kind of behaviour. I hope for his sake he has a good attorney.
In an insurance scam Wilson used information from twelve patients that were Los Angeles Unified School District employees that had filed compensation claims. In the scam, he billed insurance companies for treatment that was never provided to the twelve patients for over $1.3 million dollars.
According to Deputy District Attorney Wendy Derzaph of the Heathcare Fraud Division, Wilson made $354,000 in the scam. Derzaph stated that Wilson pleaded guilty to one count of identity theft, insurance fraud, grand theft and two counts of failure to file income tax returns for the years 2005 and 2007. By the way if you require a good Los Angeles criminal defense attorney then may I suggest Mr. Ramiro Luis. he is one of the better criminal defense attorney you will find in L.A.
Superior Court Judge Samuel Mayerson who presided over the case and sentenced Wilson to four years and eight months, also ordered that he pay $345,000 in restitution to the Los Angeles school district that paid for treatment not provided for employees.

What is an immune system?

Filed under: Uncategorized — biopathics @ 7:15 pm

An immune system protects an organism against disease involving biological processes. It identifies and kills tumor cells and pathogens. It detects viruses and other agents. The immune system distinguishes the organism’s healthier tissues and cells in order for it to function properly.

The immune system protects the organisms from infections with layered defenses. The immune system has two types of defense mechanisms; innate immune system and an adaptive immune system. Pathogens (bacteria and viruses), physical barriers prevent them from entering the organism. If a pathogen makes its way through the physical barriers, the innate immune system provides a non-specific response immediately.

All plants and animals have innate immune systems. If the pathogens evade the innate response successfully, a third layer of protection (which vertebrates possess), the adaptive immune system is activated. The immune system adapts when it recognizes an infection from the pathogen. The adaptive immune system adapted its response. The response is improved and retained in the form of an immunological memory. The pathogen has been eliminated and it allows the adaptive immune system to response faster and have stronger attack each time this specific pathogen is encountered.

If the immune system has disorders, it can lead to disease. Immunodeficiency diseases and disorders occur when the immune system is less active and responsive than normal. The results could be life threatening with recurring life threatening infections.
There are ways to boost an overactive or hyperactive immune system. Also ways to help your immunity:

1. Transfer factor is the theory that immunity information in the human body can be transferred from cell to cell.

A cell has the uncanny ability to teach the immune system to recognize viruses and bacteria that cause harm to the human body. The immune system’s primary job is to fight off the harmful bacteria and viruses. The molecules from the transfer factor create a memory of the past pathogens that were in the body. It maintains the effectiveness of the immune system.

2. “A mother passes on vital immune know-how (gathered from her own experiences) in the first critical days of life. Mammals pass on this information through the mother’s first milk, or colostrums, while other animals pass it through the egg. Transfer factors and nanofraction molecules are important components of this education acting as nature’s first supplements.”

3. Getting plenty of sleep can help your immune system. Your body needs to restore and replenish itself. Getting plenty hours of sleep will make you healthier and build your immune system stronger at the same time.

Medical Reasons not to De-claw Your Cat

Filed under: Pet Health — biopathics @ 9:02 pm

In my numerous years of owning a cat, I have never even considered de-clawing my cats. Yes, I have a tendency to get a bit angry when sections of my furniture end up looking shredded after a while, but I look at it this way: My felines have put up with a lot of my own faults (such as when I did not buy them premium cat food like I should have, and then had to go back out again when they refused to eat it. By the way, I do think that a premium cat food is very important and i recommend Life’s Abundance premium cat food in particular); so it’s high time that I also put with a few of theirs, which includes them scratching up my furniture now and again. But all in all, if you are not like me, please consider the following arguements:

1. De-clawing is a practice that originated here in the United States for WHATEVER reason – it behooves me, but you should know that this procedure is illegal in England which views it as a cruel and inhumane practice, as it should be. Let’s hear it for England for standing up for cats’ rights.

2 De-clawing may solve your furniture scratching problem but could cause another. If you do get your cat de-clawed you should be aware that although your cat may be unable to scratch the furniture later on, the procedure alone may traumatize your cat, causing a drastic personality change in your beloved Kitty or resulting in a depressed Kitty unwilling to eat her cat food. So, the Kitty you send into the operating room, may not be the same loving Kitty that comes out. If you’re willing to take that risk, then so be it.

3. De-clawing will prevent your cat from protecting himself IF you happen to let your cat out. So if you do decide to de-claw your cat, you will then need to make a follow-up commitment, which you may find even more difficult, if you haven’t already, to keep your cat indoors for its own protection. What does this mean? It means that you will not only leave cat food for your cat indoors, but your cat will be restricted to your home 24/7, everyday in every season since he can no longer protect himself without his claws. If you can make this commitment and the above points don’t bother you, then you do have de-clawing as an option since it is available here in the United States by a number of vets.

Whatever decision you make, do not allow de-clawing your cat be the reason why you keep your cat. If you’re so fed up with your cat that you see de-clawing as the only solution, you ought to heavily weigh if indeed that will solve your dilemma, because once you de-claw a cat, it may be a bit more difficult for shelters to find your pet a good home.

Weight Loss Season is Coming - Tips for Getting in Shape for Summer

Filed under: weight loss — biopathics @ 7:27 pm

Spring is already here and before you know it, it will be summer time. Bathing suit season is almost here, and more than likely you have somehow accumulated a few pounds during the winter months, since you’ve been stuck inside so much. Even if you’re despairing a bit about those pounds you’ve picked up, there are some great ways to get rid of them. You can look great by summer time if you are willing to work at it. So, here are a few great tips for getting in shape for summer that are healthy and provide great results.

Tip #1 - Start Pushing Water - If you are ready to start getting back in shape and you want to lose those winter pounds, you need to start pushing water. Believe it or not, your water bottle is your best friend when you are trying to lose a few pounds to get back in that bathing suit this summer. The minimum amount of water you need is 8 8-ounce glasses of water. However, when you want to lose weight, you need to drink more. To figure out how much you need, divide your weight in half and you’ll get the number of ounces you should be drinking each day in order to flush away fat and toxins from your body for weight loss.

Tip #2 - Get Moving to Burn Calories - Of course you can’t expect water to do it all for you. You need to get moving so you can burn off some calories. You can’t burn off fat unless your body uses more calories than you take in each day. Starving yourself is not a healthy option, so you need to get moving so your body will burn off more and start burning the extra pounds of fat you are carrying. Even if you’re not a fan of the gym, you still have options to burn off calories. Walk as much as possible. Do some cleaning or gardening to burn calories. Get in a 20-30 minute workout 3-5 times a week as well. This can provide you with great results.

Tip #3 - Choose High Fiber Foods and Plenty of Fruits and Veggies - Eating right is important for losing those winter pounds too. Choose foods that are high in fiber, and make sure that you get plenty of fruits and veggies. High fiber foods make you feel full and they are great for your digestive system as well. Fruits and vegetables will help you make sure that you get the nutrients you need in your diet as well. This type of a healthy diet will help you to lose weight.

Tip #4 - Get a Buddy to Lose with You - Often having a buddy to work on losing weight with you is a powerful motivator. A buddy will keep you dedicated to your program and keep you from giving up when it gets a bit rough. It’s actually proven that diet buddies will help you to be more successful in your weight loss efforts. So, find a friend or a neighbor that wants to lose weight too and get started together.
